Could you do it? Could you successfully defend your life if you found yourself in a compromising, or even a life threatening situation?
Hi there! I’m Jennifer, the face behind The Armed Granny. While not quite a granny yet, I sure am old enough to be one! But do you want to know something? I refuse to be a victim, and so should you. No matter what your age.
I have seen a lot of change in this great nation, especially in the last 30 years. But the one thing that has remained constant is that women like us continue to be victims of violent crimes. What makes this different now as opposed to 30 years ago is that somehow these crimes have become our fault. Victim blaming has become the new norm.
While there are plenty of good sites out there that can help you with firearms and self defense questions, most are written in man speak. In fact, the entire firearms industry is male driven. While I truly appreciate the effort men make at explaining things, most women tune out after the first few sentences, especially if it gets too technical. Although important, I don’t really care how many grains of powder are in such and such a cartridge or how many feet per second it travels. I just want to know which gun is best, which carry purse is best, the best and easiest way to practice, and how to become a better shooter. And I don’t want any flack about it.
I created The Armed Granny to give women seeking firearms guidance a safe, non judgemental, non political place to go to find factual information in an easy to understand manner. By a woman for a woman. What makes me legitimate to provide this information? I’m glad you asked!
I grew up in a military family and married a military man. Throughout our 23 years of marriage, through all of the ups and downs that marriages present, our love of shooting has been the glue that has kept us together. Range time is great bonding time, and I encourage you and your family to try it out. And if you have kids, bring them along too. My daughters have been shooting since they had pacifiers in their mouths.
I, also, have been shooting my entire life. My first love was skeet shooting; I even used to compete when I was younger. But as I grew older I realized that recreational shooting skills were not going to save me in a life threatening situation. So, together, my husband and I trained to become Certified NRA pistol instructors and Range Safety Officers. Now I get the honor to help women overcome their fear of firearms in both classroom and range settings. I am also the co leader of my county’s The Well Armed Woman Chapter, which affords me even more opportunity to train women with guns!
We are fortunate to live in the Appalachian Mountains, in Northern Georgia. Our 15 acre hobby farm partly sustains us with livestock, vegetable gardens, and a small orchard. We even have a range on the property. I could not ask for a more beautiful and safe place to live. But we all have dreams, and mine is to one day retire to Alaska and live fully off the grid. Sounds crazy right? At least I’ll know what to do when confronted by a grizzly!
Am I perfect? No. Do I have all of the answers? No. But I can promise you honesty and integrity, and will do anything I can to help you find your way through your firearms questions, insecurities, media confusion and training. Please start by reading my post about overcoming the fear of firearms training.
