The Reality of Self Defense Is Here
I’m sorry folks, but the fluffy bunny days of the past are long gone. There are things going on in the world today that haven’t gone on in any other era of our history. Mental illness, drug addiction, and true evil confront us daily, and combined with a media intentionally misleading and dividing our great country in two makes for a real mess. The time has come for us to take our safety into our own hands, and we women need to step up to the task. Our fear of firearms, especially pistols, will come to an end with this blog. Self defense begins today.
This is the first post of my brand new blog. I decided to start this for several reasons: 1) To provide women a place to go where they can find factual information and evidence, not emotional arguments and opinions, concerning all things guns, 2) To provide a woman’s perspective on all things guns, most of these things which men could not even perceive of as being an issue, and 3) To help all women choose, learn how to handle, properly conceal, and feel confident using guns for their own personal protection.
I got the idea for this blog several years ago when a good friend of mine told me she was carrying a pistol in her purse. When I asked her if she had ever shot it, she said, “No, but I have it just in case.” I was absolutely floored. Having grown up around guns my entire life, and having a husband and a father who were in the military, I know guns. I know that even if I shoot several times a week there is a still a chance I still may miss my target. Intrigued, I began asking all of my lady friends if they had guns, and if they ever really shot them. My intrigue turned into horror as I soon realized nearly everyone I knew had at least one pistol, but most had never fired them. Ever.
Furthermore, most of them had purchased their pistol “because it was cheap,” or “because it was cute,” or because so and so said it was a good one. Let me make something clear, purchasing a pistol is not something you do on a whim. In fact, I am going to devote my entire next blog post on the seemingly simple topic of “which pistol is right for me.”
I need you to listen to something, and listen closely. If you carry a pistol and you aren’t absolutely, without a doubt positive that you can draw and fatally shoot your attacker with just a few seconds notice, you don’t need to be carrying a pistol. If you feel the need to pull it out in a life threatening situation and you are not fully prepared, more than likely it will be grabbed from you and used on you. Let that sink in.
So why don’t women take the time to target practice? In a nutshell, I suspect fear. While training to become a Certified NRA Pistol Instructor, I recently sat in on a Basic Pistol class for newbies. For the record, I applaud all of the (mostly) ladies in the class for taking the first step in responsible pistol ownership. It was quite eye opening to see firsthand just how misinformed and naive the class was in regards to all things firearms. Many in the class had never even touched a pistol, let alone fired one. One woman was so scared she was visibly trembling. While all had different reasons for taking the class, they all shared one common thing, fear.
The instructor said that F.E.A.R. was an acronym for False Evidence Appearing Real. We all continually fabricate opinions and notions in our minds that give us an illusion of what is not. This holds true for all fears in our lives, not just the fear of firearms. Do you want to know what I am afraid of? My Instant Pot. I’m afraid the lid is going to blow right off that thing, go through my roof, and leave me with a nice view of the stars. I seriously need to find a blog that starts with Step 1: Take Instant Pot out of the box. Sound ridiculous? If you consider that all fears basically take root from a lack of knowledge, it is not so ridiculous.
It is unfortunate in our society today that we even have to think about carrying a pistol everywhere we go. I hope through this blog I can convince you to think of your pistol as being just as, or even more important than your cell phone. My goal is to not only to get you comfortable with the idea, but also to get you to become passionate about taking your safety into your own hands. Most of the crimes committed against women are when they are all alone. Survival of the fittest is the only thing that is going to save your life.

Such a great post! Love it!
Hey girl…. leaving a message…. now going back to finish reading your article. 🤗
Absolutely love and agree with everything in this post. Congratulations on getting your blog up and running! I just subscribed. 🙂
As a person who has only taken a beginner firearm training course, I definitely agree with what you said. I would be so afraid to carry a gun and not have the confidence to use it, and am appalled (like you were) that someone would choose to do that without keeping up on their training!
Good job! I have known your Dad for a long time and I know you have gotten the best knowledge and instructions from him. I have even fired your Semi-Auto Shotgun at the Skeet Range!
Keep it up!
